One thing that always surprises me are the number of... "oddball" posts at Joel on Software.
The whole ecosystem of Fog Creek is Windows oriented, though clearly Joel isn't afraid to venture out of that space. Yet for a primarily Microsoft-compatible worldlet Joel's comment forums seem to get a bizarre quantity of Java oriented and really out there (Python? Rails?) fringe stuff posted.
Nothing wrong with any of it, but it always surprises me how much chatter there is when Joel doesn't make an effort to cater to those realms. Is it trolling? Cluelessness? Have these folks been run out of more mainstream sites covering their interests? Is it some attempt at evangelism?
